Hi, I have installed kiwi syslog daemon service on a windows xp. I have installed it to read logs from my mikrotik router.

I can't get a good analytical view of the logs and I thought could be better if I access kiwi syslog with kiwi web access. is web access integrated with the syslog daemon service or should I download it from the solarwinds homepage?

thanks

android app -> syslog

I downloaded the community version of kiwi.

I've got an app that I'm developing that will submit an event to a syslog server.  So, I need to find out how to quickly configure it to look for a udp message at a specific ip address.

Any suggestions?

Kiwi Syslog not receiving SNMP Traps

Hi all.

I have just installed Kiwi Syslog Server 9.5 on a test machine to evaluate its suitability for a project I'm working on. It's currently still running in 14-day Evaluation mode.

We can't seem to get it to receive SNMP traps at all. No matter what we do, netstat shows nothing listening on UDP port 162. SNMPv1 traps are being sent to the server, and we can see them in Wireshark arriving at the server, but Kiwi isn't listening for them.

In desparation, we tried enabling the Windows SNMP Trap service (although we understand this isn't required?) and this 'absorbed' the traps, but nothing appeared in Kiwi.

The test machine is running Windows 7 (32-bit) with the Windows Firewall switched off.

Should the 14-day Evaluation be able to receive SNMP traps?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Kiwi Syslog Server v9.6.0/9.6.1 need ".NET Framework 4.0" ?

I tried to install v9.6.1 on Windows Server 2008 R2.

I had already installed ".NET Framework 3.5 SP1" on this system.

When I executed v9.6.1 installer, I got the following message.

----------------------

Kiwi Syslog Server 9.6.1 Installer

Microsoft .Net Framework 4.0 is not installed on this system

[OK]

----------------------

961_installer_.Net Framework 4.0 is not installed.png

I can not install v9.6.1.

I got the same message, when I tried to install v9.6.0.

SolarWinds discribed the System Requirements as below:

NET Framework: .NET Framework 3.5 SP1

http://www.kiwisyslog.com/kiwi-syslog-server

https://support.solarwinds.com/Success_Center/Kiwi_Syslog_Server/Kiwi_Syslog_Server_Installation_Guide/020_System_requirements_for_Kiwi_Syslog_Server

http://www.solarwinds.com/ja/kiwi-syslog-server#requirements

Question:

Do Kiwi Syslog Server v9.6.0/9.6.1 need  ".NET Framework 4.0" or Higher?

Event Log Forwarder - Where is the Audit Failure Type?

$

Hi There,

I'm trialing Kiwi Syslog and I'm having trouble with the Log Forwarder and Security Event Log.  When I click on the Security Log I don't see Audit Success or Audit Failure as an event type.  It just has Error, Warning and Information.  If I manually edit the CFG file and add <int>16</int> it works, but then it gets overwritten if I make a change.  Am I doing something wrong?  How can I see Audit Failure as an Event Type?

Thanks,

Forward Event Viewer subscriptions with Event Log Forwarder for Windows

Has anyone been able to forward subscribed events (from other machines) to Kiwi Syslog server using Event Log Forwarder for Windows? I am trying to setup a single point to collect events to be forwarded to our syslog server.

I setup a test and subscribed to events from another machine to be placed in the Windows Logs -> Application. I see the forwarded events in Windows Event Viewer, but when viewing the "preview of matching event records" (Event Log Forwarder for Windows) I only see the events sources from the computer running the event log forwarder. (see the attached screenshot)

Thanks!

Jeremy

Kiwi Syslog not capturing syslogs

Installed Kiwi Syslog Free version 9.3.4 on Windows Server 2008 R2.  Trying to capture syslog from a Cisco ASA 5510.  I have confirmed that the syslog events are hitting the server with Wireshark.  Nothing is coming through to Kiwi Syslog.  Current settings are all default.  No filters in place.  Not sure what is wrong as I can see the syslog messages coming through Wireshark. Any ideas as to why the syslog messages are not being seen by Kiwi?

Can I install Kiwi 9.3.4 in Windows Server 2012 R2

I currently have a Kiwi Syslog (9.3.4) on a Windows Server 2003 R2 (x64) and would like to know the following;

1. Can I install the current version (9.3.4) into a newly build Windows Server 2012 R2 machine? Is it compatible with Server 2012 R2?  If yes, can I move the database of the old Kiwi to the newly installed Kiwi Syslog server? If no;

2. Can I install the new version (9.5) into a newly build Windows Server 2012 R2 without buying a new license?

Thanks guys.

'How much traffic can Kiwi Syslog Server handle?'

according to the FAQ.. Our software is built and tested to support more than two million messages an hour without tuning.   (That would support more than 500 machines each sending one message a second.)

This blog says to split out your busiest syslog source...

But what do you do when a single source exceeds 600-1000 messages per second? eg., upstream syslog aggregator or firewalls

Administrator Password Missed; Other way to login

Hi,

I have recently been handed over Kiwi Syslog server to manage which has both Fat Client and Web Server. Fat Client is directly logged in however Web console could not be logged in. When I checked regarding the password of "Administrator", I have been informed that resource handling it has left long ago and there is no one to tell.

Is there a way we can reset the password of Administrator or create a new user from Syslog Fat Client. I cant raise the request with Support as we do not have active maintanence.

Thanks,

Syed

Changing Kiwi Syslog web port

Hi all,

Can anyone point me in the direction some documentation on how to change the default Kiwi Syslog web port from 8088 to something else? Say 80?

I had a 'quick' search and couldn't find anything solid to go off.

Thanks!

Kiwi Syslog Email Alerts & Filters

Hi all,

I just have some questions around setting up email alerts and filters in Kiwi Syslog.

  1. What is the average processing time from receiving a syslog message to it being processed and emailed out? I'm seeing delays of up to 30 seconds or more before I am even seeing it in the email log within Kiwi, then you add the time it takes for your mail server to actually deliver the message. Curious to see what others are seeing?
  2. When creating filters and actions within a rule, the filters look to be processed as "AND" instead of "OR". E.g. If I have a single rule called "Logon Success Events", with an action to email the alert, and a filter to catch the first devices message which might be "logon successful" and the second devices message "successful logon", it appears to not work. It appears I have to create a new rule for each different message string? Is there a way for multiple filters under a rule to be processed as "OR" and not "AND"?

Many thanks!

Cisco IPS appliances SDEE support

Dears,

It is a noticeable that Kiwi Syslog Server does not support log collection in SDEE format sent by Cisco IPS appliances and modules, like IPS 4270.

CISCO IOS IPS supports sending syslog messages, however Cisco IPS appliances only support sending messages in SDEE format, which make their collection impossible.

We are wondering if it's in the scope for Kiwi Syslog Server to support SDEE format in its coming versions.

Thanks,

Roland Daccache.

Kiwi Syslog Service Keeps crashing

$

We have been experiencing an issue with our Kiwi Syslog Service crashing about every other day.  We are running version 9 and have a pretty standard setup where we are pushing syslogs from all of our devices in our network.  We have quite a bit of stuff logging to our Syslog server and are easily breaching the 200000 maximum message count throughout the day and getting email's.  We up'ed that and seem to be doing better however the syslog service continues to fail and will at times restart itself based off of the services recovery failure to restart the service but this is happening way to often.

Has anyone else seen this problem and if so, what kinds of things did you try/do?  Is this box just getting pegged so hard that it's causing the service to malfunction and trip up?  I'm not a Windows guy but is this issue even Windows related?  The only other application we have running on this server is CatTools and it runs clean with no service issues.  The systems team has taken a look at the server and believe this to be related only to the Kiwi application itself.

Next Steps: I'm thinking of removing and rebuilding the Kiwi 9 application from scratch to see if this corrects the issue but wanted some direction from the forum if anyone has any good ideas/suggestions.

Thankyou in advance!

Kiwi Syslog Server Web Interface Very Slow

$

I just setup an evaluation installation of the Kiwi Syslog Server and it's Web Access component.  I have one relatively high volume system logging to it.

When I search for specific logs using filters in the Web Access, it takes a very long time fetching the events.  If this is the case with only one system logging to it I am concerned about performance if I have a bunch more systems log to it.

Is this typical behavior for Kiwi Web Access?
