Hi everyone,

 

I'm using Kiwi syslog server 9 on Windows 2008 R2 server (VMware virtual machine). On 17.8.2012. physical server has stopped responding and customer had to restart it manually. Since then Kiwi syslog server doesn't work. When I try to access it, server's CPU raises to 100%, it is stuck like that for few minutes and then it displays error message in Kiwi grid pop up window saying 'Run-time error '0''.

 

Kiwi syslog service also can't be started, when I try to start it, it says it couldn't be started in timely fashion.

 

I've tried to delete/rename files in c:\program files\solarwinds\kiwi web access\html\app_data but with no success. I've renamed event.sdf to Old_event.sdf and made a copy of Event-blank.sdf and then renamed it to event.sdf.

 

I've raised a support ticket but with no results till now.

 

Do you have any idea what's the problem here?

Kiwi syslog service is getting stop and while restarting it, again after few sec it stop. Restarted the server but no luck. Do any one have idea what will be cuase of issue.

i am using  a syslog server to recive logs from my firewall , i am trying to send the logs from my syslog server to my private email but i ceep getting the error : SMTP protocol error 535 5.7.3 authentication unsuccessful [BN4PR13CA0020.namprd 13.prod.outlook.com

 

i get this error when using TLS as security.

 

but when i use SSL as security i get this error : mail error: [10060] connection time out.

 

 

 

pleas help me , this is an exam thing for my school.

I am having kiwi syslog 9.5 installed.

I choose to install as service and also installed the web access.

The syslog console opened fine and I see logs on displayed and also to file.

However, with the web access, it shows nothing (what so ever).  I checked the Setup on Console Manager and see that under Rules i have 2 exact same option for "Log to Syslog Web Access".  Everything under that options checked.

But I still see no log on web access.

 

1) I tried to uncheck all the "Log to Syslog Web Access".

2) Closed the Console Manager and reopened it

3) Checked mark one of the 2 optioins "Log to Syslog Web Access" and everything below it.

4) Opened and log in to web access -> Still see nothing.

 

any idea?

I am trying to setup the email section of the Kiwi Syslog server and I am receiving the following error in the log, "Mail error: SMTP protocol error. 421 4.3.2 Service not available.". Does this message mean I need to have the SMTP service installed on the same server as the Kiwi Syslog server? Or is this error coming from the server I entered as the valid SMTP server? The admin manual does not specify.

Hi everyone,

 

Can someone confirm that both the Kiwi Syslog Service Manager console and the Kiwi Syslog Web Access will only display messages for current log files.  Therefore, a find or filter will only bring up hits for the most current log files, correct?

 

Assuming that is the case, I found a thread that mentions WinGREP as a freeware to search all log files on your hard drive.  Wouldn't it be helpful for this capability to be integrated into Kiwi Syslog Server?

 

For example, I am importing all Windows Security events from all domain controllers into Kiwi Syslog Server.  I want to be able to search for a username and the phrase "user account is locked out" for as far back as I have logs.  How do I do this easily?

Hi, I was hoping someone can explain the log files ('SolarWinds.SyslogServer.Engine.log') created in the Syslogd folder to me. What purpose do they serve? Are they safe to delete? Can I set them to be created in a different directory?

Hello ITs,

 

We are getting SNMP traps from differents WLC 2504 (Cisco Wifi Controller) to our Kiwi Syslog Server (version 9.5.1.59) deployed on Windows Server 2012 64bits. The following problem it was discovered when we saw all MAC-addresses appears in bad format (see file attached below). We need to change the file format from cldcClientIPAddress.0 to Hex String. How can I change this field from "Messange Text"? I captured the SNMP trap and appears in well format.

Hi,

I need information regarding filtering in KIWI Syslog Web Access. When i select filter in KIWI Web Access  and put device name or IP address of which events i want to see in filteration, then KIWI Web Access displays the 7 days old list of events of the specific device. My query is why KIWI Web Access just showing 7 days old events? Can we see more than 7 days old events?If yes, kindly guide me.

Hi,

 

I have recently been handed over Kiwi Syslog server to manage which has both Fat Client and Web Server. Fat Client is directly logged in however Web console could not be logged in. When I checked regarding the password of "Administrator", I have been informed that resource handling it has left long ago and there is no one to tell.

 

Is there a way we can reset the password of Administrator or create a new user from Syslog Fat Client. I cant raise the request with Support as we do not have active maintanence.

Dear All,

 

I have purchased a Kiwi Syslog Server Ver 9.4.1 and I require to install it onto 60 Servers in my environment. My query is that is there any way to install it using SSCM(System Center Configuration Manager) in Windows? Also I have few conditions in the installation process, these are:

   ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

     1. As a Service

     2. No Web Access (unchecking it - as it is enabled by default in the wizard)

     3. Local System Account

     4. Normal Install

   ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kindly help me in installing the Kiwi Syslog server.

I am running Kiwi Syslog server 9.4.1 and I have created an archive task to copy all messages to a file share every 5 minutes.  When I click the Run Now button it works but when I leave it to run, it does not run.  I have confirmed that the archive task is enabled.  Anyone have any ideas?

Hello,

I've setup my Kiwi Syslog Server to log to an Oracle Database. That worked, except that german umlauts (like ä, ö, ü) were not written to the DB correctly. (however, they showed up fine in the Server Console).

 

Therefore I changed the encoding for the UDP Input to UTF-8 wich results in fine database logs, but now umlauts in the server console as well as logfiles where displayed incorrect. I could get the logfile problem resolved by setting the LogFileEncodingFormat registry key to UTF-8 (65001). But the problem in the Server Console persists.

 

The weird thing is, changing the UDP input back to "System" encoding doesn't resolve the issue for the console.

according to the FAQ.. Our software is built and tested to support more than two million messages an hour without tuning.   (That would support more than 500 machines each sending one message a second.)

This blog says to split out your busiest syslog source...

How many messages can Kiwi Syslog manage?

But what do you do when a single source exceeds 600-1000 messages per second? eg., upstream syslog aggregator or firewalls
