Windows Events 6005, 6006, 6008, 6009 and 1074 not logging in kiwi syslog server

Hello Everyone,

First time poster here. I am trying to track event log service status and power downs. I cannot get the windows machines to forward event logs  6005, 6006, 6008, 6009 and 1074.

I have event log forwarder configured correctly, at least the log preview shows the correct logs being forwarded. I do have a custom filter built just for these event IDs but I also have a catch all file that is not filtered. I am checking in both the web access and the syslog server itself. Neither of them receive these event logs from the windows machines. I haven't noticed any other events not being forwarded. All of my other filters are producing the information correctly.

Any tips on how to collect these logs?

Using Kiwi Syslog Server 9.6 and Event log Forwarder

Kiwi Syslog Service Manager could not receive log from Solarwinds Log Forwarder

Server OS: Windows server 2016

Client OS: Windows 10 pro build 1511

Kiwi syslog service manager: Licensed 9.6

Kiwi syslog message generator: v2.2

Solarwinds event log forwarder: v1.2

Firewall status: both server and client are off.

I'm trying to use Solarwinds event log forwarder to forward client's event logs to server's syslog manager through TCP, but nothing shows up (Ports and IP address are done correctly). Activating license was my last resort, but result doesn't change.

I then tried using Kiwi syslog message generator, message finally received by syslog manager but after every one message was sent, TCP connection is constantly being cut off. Tried sending messages using UDP too, turns out UDP does nothing at all, no message no nothing (Again, ports are fine).  Tried this method Kiwi Syslog Server service is halting regularly - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support , doesn't work. Tried reinstalling syslog manager, no luck.

I tried to install Splunk on the server pc, and I managed to connect successfully with client's pc through TCP, which means there were no issues with the ports and connection.

Any help would be appreciated!

Maximum number of TCP connections has been reached. Not accepting connection.

KiWi Syslogd error: Maximum number of TCP connections has been reached. Not accepting connection.

Why? Thanks..

SSL support for Kiwi Syslog server

Hi All,

Few months back we bought Kiwi Syslog Server license version because of the SSL feature only. I enabled the option Secured TCP option. But unfortunately it is unable to bind the port itself.

It says "invalid certificate provided". We use the same SSL certificate for other products with no issues. If use the same port for TCP or UDP only then it is working fine. I could not find what is the exact issue.

I contacted the SolarWinds customer portal few months back. They are not able tell what is exactly going on. Can you some one help me in fixing the problem?

Abdun

Syslog stops logging with no notification

I discovered this morning (only because I didn't receive the nightly report) that two of our Syslog servers stopped logging yesterday afternoon. The nightly archiving and cleanup jobs did not run. The service did not crash. The drive has 63 GB of free space. There are no entries under the Application or System logs in Windows. Under the Errorlog I see this for all of the reporting nodes ("ip.address.#" is placeholder for the actual values in the logs):

no log shows on Kiwi Syslog Web Access

I am having kiwi syslog 9.5 installed.

I choose to install as service and also installed the web access.

The syslog console opened fine and I see logs on displayed and also to file.

However, with the web access, it shows nothing (what so ever).  I checked the Setup on Console Manager and see that under Rules i have 2 exact same option for "Log to Syslog Web Access".  Everything under that options checked.

But I still see no log on web access.

1) I tried to uncheck all the "Log to Syslog Web Access".

2) Closed the Console Manager and reopened it

3) Checked mark one of the 2 optioins "Log to Syslog Web Access" and everything below it.

4) Opened and log in to web access -> Still see nothing.

any idea?

SolarWinds LogForwarder 1.2

Can't manage to get this up and running.

SYSLOG Server is defines. works so far.

But the subscription behavers strange.

Adding one to parse Application / Error Events results in 22 Events of type Information and wrong sources.

Simple Filtering Not Working

I trying to create a new rules of filter the of the Cisco Event IDs (eg. 106021, 710003, 302014, 302016) but it doesn't work. The weird part there is that, I have filter that is working fine however, when I trying to add new event IDs it didn't work as well. I already stop and start the Kiwi Syslog Server service and restart the Server itself but still it doesn't work. Could someone help me on this? I'm using Kiwi Syslog Server 9.5.0.332

Thanks in advance.

PCI compliance with Kiwi Syslog

Does Kiwi have any features that cover these PCI requriements:

10.5.2 Protect audit trail files from unauthorized modifications.

10.5.5 Use file-integrity monitoring or change-detection software on logs to ensure that existing log data cannot be changed without generating alerts (although new data being added should
not cause an alert).

We're doing our syslogging to .txt files if that helps.  Thanks!

Kiwi Syslog not receiving any message

Hello,

I just installed Syslog on a Windows 8 VM (ESXi 5.5).

However... I don't received any message from the router (Cisco RV042G) I want to log.

I tried the generic troubleshhoting :

• Check network connectivity by pinging from the sending device to the Syslog Server machine  => OK
• Check only one instance of Kiwi Syslog Server is running (Ctrl-Shift-Esc to get the task-list) => OK, only one
• Disable any personal firewall software such as ZoneAlarm or BlackIce => Disabled

• Use a sniffer to check if messages from the routing are reaching the PC => Yes, I can see them
• Check DNS resolution is working as expected by pinging a hostname from the Command Prompt => OK
• Check that there is a "Display" action setup for the facility and level you are expecting to receive messages on. => OK
• Send a test message to yourself by pressing Ctrl+T => Displayed
• Download a copy of the Free Syslog Server Message Generator (SyslogGen) from: www.kiwisyslog.com/downloads => Done
• Install SyslogGen and set it to send a message every second to the address 127.0.0.1 (local host). => Not displayed, and I don't see them in a local packet capture.
• Try sending messages with SyslogGen from another machine to the host running the Syslog Server => Not displayed, but see them on a packet capture (on Syslog PC)

Do you have any idea about the cause of this issue ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Discarding Traps in Kiwi

I'm setting up Kiwi and I'd like to specify certain traps to discard. The problem is my rule is't working. Can anyone see why? Screenshots below show the rule called "Discard rule," the filter which is any message with "snmpd" and the actions which are to show it on display 24 and stop processing. When I to a test it works but with new messages that come in aren't getting processed by it.

How to load-balance Kiwi Syslog servers

I've got a set of 3 Kiwi servers sitting behind an F5, which I *thought* would effectively load balance the incoming syslog volume (I'm seeing around 5-8million messages per hour, and we haven't really turned everything on yet).

The problem, I just discovered, is that F5 load balances based on connections, not messages/packets. So round robin isn't round robin since most of my sending systems are passing new messages (and therefore creating a connection) more than even the lowest "disconnect after" option on the F5 (which is 1 second).

So my first server is maxing out at about 5million MPH and 0% buffer, while server 02 gets 2million messages and 80% buffer, and server 03 gets barely anything at all.

Has anyone else tried this, and have you found a work around (it doesn't have to be an F5. I just need the ability to create a pool of Kiwi servers and have all the systems in my enterprise sending to ONE ip address.

Thanks!

Event log forwarder not forwarding log messsages when login to a domain account.

Hi,

First I am new here.

Currently, I am having an issue where I login as a domain user from my windows PC no logs were forwarded to my syslog server. I did a test log and it works correctly, but only when I login as a local user from my computer.

Overall, when i login as a local user it forwards log messages according to the subscription and preview functionality. When i tried login as a domain user, it do not work?

I would be appreciated if you would assist me with this issue.

Event Log Forwarder - Where is the Audit Failure Type?

Hi There,

I'm trialing Kiwi Syslog and I'm having trouble with the Log Forwarder and Security Event Log.  When I click on the Security Log I don't see Audit Success or Audit Failure as an event type.  It just has Error, Warning and Information.  If I manually edit the CFG file and add <int>16</int> it works, but then it gets overwritten if I make a change.  Am I doing something wrong?  How can I see Audit Failure as an Event Type?

Thanks,
