When using an Events filter, I get the following return (see below).  My Kiwi Syslog is running on a virtual 2012 R2 standard (64bit). In an attempt to resolve the error, I have followed advice to increase the maximum size to 4MB but to no avail.  Any thoughts?

I want to create filter in syslog server to view the windows logon and logoff (event logs).

Please help me to create the filter.

1st time working with Kiwi Syslog.

Let me know if I'm in the wrong place.

I am very new to Syslog Servers.

I'm a Route/Switch type guy.

We are using Kiwi Syslog to get Call Manager Call Traces for troubleshooting.

This Instance of Kiwi Syslog was working fine as a Guest VMware Server on a Host Server.

We used the app Veeam to move the Kiwi Syslog VMware Guest Server to another Host.

This issue started after the copy/move of the Kiwi Syslog

No IP addresses were changed, it's on the same network as before.

It starts up, logs are being received, and then they stop.

If you try to start the service, it tells you it's already running.

At the bottom of the Kiwi Syslog Service Manager, you can see the MPH indicator has stopped.

Looking at the correct folder I can see the logs are no longer being  received.

If I stop the service and start the service it starts.

There is a script that tells it to restart every morning at 4am, and it will do this.

Below is the error event seen when it stopped last time.

Has anyone seen this type of issue before?

My first post, i wish to share you some tips i found.

My main goal was to have access to the kiwi web site working with SSL...

But looking at Cassinni Web Server, it wasn't possible.

After searching more on this forum I found a post about a Rewriting Module with Apache ; so why dont we do it with IIS ?

Here we go !

Setup

- Win 2008 R2 , IIS 7 (with auth modules etc ...) , at least a working SSL certificate for the HTTPS listener (this post will not cover how PKI works, certs installation etc .... sorry).

- We will use the ARR 2.0 module x64 for IIS... See References at bottom for DL link, install it.

- A running Kiwi Syslog Server and the Web Access working on port 8088. Access via a browser works on this port.

Goal

- Enable the rewrite/proxy module in IIS

- Create a new IIS Web Site with HTTPS Listener on TCP Port 8090

- Create a rule to rewrite requests from 8090 to 8088

- When connecting on https://server:8090 , we would see Kiwi Web page.

HOW TO

1. Enabling the rewrite module

2. New Site creation

3. Attach the SSL Certificate to the Binding 8090

3.1 With batch/cmd line(copy/past to a BAT file)

3.2 With IIS Manager (if you don't know where to read Hash Certificate).

-Right Click on SYSLOG site, modify Bindings.

-Select https 8090 * Listener > Modify.

-On the "box" SSL Certificate, choose your certificate for the server.

-"OK"

4. Create the rule (copy/past to a BAT file)

At the beginning i was thinking to use http://mysite/syslog/ as a virtual directory, but I got some troubles with events.aspx and the rewrite module.

Inbound Rules was OK ; But Outbound Rules to rewrite URLS were not working as expected ; and filters in Kiwi were not working anymore.

That's why i decided to create a new site on another binding, with a root site ; so don't need to create Outbound Rules ...

I'm trying to forward events from Kiwi Syslog to QRadar SIEM. 

In Kiwi Syslog setup, I created an Action: Forward to another host; gave it the QRadar appliance's IP as the Destination IP; selected "Retain the original source address of the message"; clicked the Test button to verify the configuration and got a gree checkmark.

The test event was the only event received by the QRadar.  None of the events I'm forwarding have been received as incoming logs on QRadar.

I've tried this with and without adding the Kiwi Syslog servers as log sources in QRadar.

Do I need to install a universal DSM on the Kiwi Syslog servers?

Hello Experts,

We have two instances of Kiwi 9.6.6.1(enterprise licensed) which are failing to stay up with TCP traffic over port 514. It fails with an unhandled exception "System.IndexOutofRangeException". If I try to send the normal burst messages using SyslogGen it works but for actual traffic it crashes. Tried to bind IP and disable UDP as well without luck.

We have DNS lookup disabled to achieve necessary speed. Our environment is Windows 2016.

Any suggestions would be of great help.

We have upgraded our kiwi syslog server to a new server with a new version of the OS.

I need to migrate the settings of the previous server to the new server, but I am unable to find a migration tool or guide on how to migrate the settings.

I dont need to migrate the files (logs) only the settings.

Can anyone help or advise, or point me to a guide?

I have Kiwi Syslog server v9.6.3.3 installed as a 14 day evaluation.  I successfully setup 3 servers to send event logs to the server using the SolarWinds Log Forwarder software.  I setup 2 additional servers using the same method and settings and none of the events appear in the Kiwi Syslog Server.  No errors appear on the client or server.  How can I troubleshoot this problem?

Sorry for the lack of knowledge but i am a new syslog and kiwi world. I purchased kiwi server with the inter to monitor three areas of my network,

1 - failed login attempts on servers and workstations

2 - bandwidth spikes on the firewalls if all possible by service e.g. smtp (all sonicwalls)

3 - bandwidth spikes on workstation

Can someone guide me to where i can find any documentations to configure the server to alert on the above, or am i asking for too much out of the kiwi server.

Kiwi syslog stopped collecting information. The view error log button is red and blinking. When i click to view the log

I'm having trouble configuring email alerts. I'm trying to send alerts to my Office 365 email address. Can someone see if I've input one of these settings incorrectly? I'm using my full Office 365 email for each of the blacked out sections in the screen shot below. For "SMTP Password," I'm using my Office 365 password.

Does anyone familiar with Kiwi syslog server? I understand that it comes with SQL CE. If my requirement is to keep log historical for a year duration, do I need to buy a full MS SQL Server database for that? How big the size of the HDD would that be..

I use kiwi syslog server a lot for testing syslog.  It seems like in the latest version there are issues with TCP.  I'm verifying with the Kiwi Syslog Message Generator.  Seems like with syslog server version 9.4.1 TCP connects and works, but in latest version 9.6.3 it does not connect for some reason. When I try to connect TCP with message generator it says "TCP session remotely disconnected" using the same tool the same exact way, it works with version 9.4.1. I'm using the syslog message generator tool on the same machine as the syslog server.  Is this a known issue, or am I missing something?  Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated.  Thank you very much.

I am setting up a kiwi syslog server.  Running into a problem with the filtering not working the way I would expect.  I have used Kiwi but that was several years ago.  I have setup a display for a specific switch and have tried several different filter possibilities but still getting syslog messages on the display that dont belong to the switch I am trying to watch. 

I have tried a ip address - simple filter with the ip address of the switch "10.1.1.2".  On the cisco switch, I have used the command logging source-interface vlan 254 which should send out the syslog messages using the ip address in the simple filter I setup.  I have also tried the hostname option with the hostname of the switch "Switch1" but same problem.

It has got to be something simple but so far I havent found the problem.  Since this is the free version, I know I cant call Solar Winds support.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

I just installed Syslog on a Windows 8 VM (ESXi 5.5).

However... I don't received any message from the router (Cisco RV042G) I want to log.

I tried the generic troubleshhoting :

• Check network connectivity by pinging from the sending device to the Syslog Server machine  => OK
• Check only one instance of Kiwi Syslog Server is running (Ctrl-Shift-Esc to get the task-list) => OK, only one
• Disable any personal firewall software such as ZoneAlarm or BlackIce => Disabled

• Use a sniffer to check if messages from the routing are reaching the PC => Yes, I can see them
• Check DNS resolution is working as expected by pinging a hostname from the Command Prompt => OK
• Check that there is a "Display" action setup for the facility and level you are expecting to receive messages on. => OK
• Send a test message to yourself by pressing Ctrl+T => Displayed
• Download a copy of the Free Syslog Server Message Generator (SyslogGen) from: www.kiwisyslog.com/downloads => Done
• Install SyslogGen and set it to send a message every second to the address 127.0.0.1 (local host). => Not displayed, and I don't see them in a local packet capture.
• Try sending messages with SyslogGen from another machine to the host running the Syslog Server => Not displayed, but see them on a packet capture (on Syslog PC)

Do you have any idea about the cause of this issue ?

I am trying to parse data that is received with Kiwi Syslog and then forward that parsed data to another syslog server that is viewed by other technicians. The issue I am having is that the server that sends the data is sending to much information that is not needed to the destination syslog server. I see that Kiwi Syslog does have the ability to do some parsing via VBscript. I was hoping someone could post a script that I could try that would parse the following data.

Is there a way to determine which devices are sending logs to the Kiwi Syslog Server?

Our maintenance ended already and I was assigned to this task of assessing our syslog server. I am trying to get information on how long the logs were retained and what devices are sending those. I have explored both the web access and server console to no avail.

Appreciate the help.
