my company has the kiwi syslog server v 9.6.6.1 and today my kiwi automaticaly stopped. i received in application event viewer message

I'm running into an issue where I have ActivePython installed, and I'm trying to use it with Kiwi Syslog Server, but I keep getting the same error:

Python is installed, Active python is installed.  I have tried creating a "Main()" function and a "main()" function to no avail.  My script is currently only doing the following:

def main():

     return "OK"

main()

I have tried a capitalized Main() as well.  Same error.

Any idea why this doesn't actually work?

We're considering purchasing the software, but only if we can get it to actually work with our pipeline.

After installing the permanent license for Kiwi Syslog server the Syslog service will not start.  It started without problems when running as the trial version.  No errors appear in the Kiwi Syslog error log, but the Windows event viewer shows the following error:

The Kiwi Syslog Server service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not start due to a logon failure.

I can't find anything in the Kiwi Syslog documentation about having to login.  The OS is Windows 2008 R2.  I am starting the Syslog service from Service Manager > Manage, and Service Manager was Run As Administrator.

Is this a known problem?

I am using Kiwi Syslog Server, and I have SolarWinds Event Log Forwarder for Windows installed on a computer.The forwarder will send  test messages, but it is not sending the logs to the log server. Any suggestions?

I am having kiwi syslog 9.5 installed.

I choose to install as service and also installed the web access.

The syslog console opened fine and I see logs on displayed and also to file.

However, with the web access, it shows nothing (what so ever).  I checked the Setup on Console Manager and see that under Rules i have 2 exact same option for "Log to Syslog Web Access".  Everything under that options checked.

But I still see no log on web access.

1) I tried to uncheck all the "Log to Syslog Web Access".

2) Closed the Console Manager and reopened it

3) Checked mark one of the 2 optioins "Log to Syslog Web Access" and everything below it.

4) Opened and log in to web access -> Still see nothing.

any idea?

I then tried using Kiwi syslog message generator, message finally received by syslog manager but after every one message was sent, TCP connection is constantly being cut off. Tried sending messages using UDP too, turns out UDP does nothing at all, no message no nothing (Again, ports are fine).  Tried this method Kiwi Syslog Server service is halting regularly - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support , doesn't work. Tried reinstalling syslog manager, no luck.

I tried to install Splunk on the server pc, and I managed to connect successfully with client's pc through TCP, which means there were no issues with the ports and connection.

Any help would be appreciated!

I am installing this on our 2012R2 windows servers so  they can forward logs to kiwi.

for the default syslog facility setting, which should I pick if I want to forward say applications, security and system?

Whatever I think closely matches that?  The docs don't discuss this in any real detail other than to mention network devices (which I already knew) and unix.

Does anyone know of a way to import/export rules to/from KiWi Syslog Server via command line or other means?

We have a very heavily utilized LEM with a "farm" of KiWi syslog servers sitting behind a load balancer.  When ever we change the rule on one KiWi server, we need to manually export the rule and import it to the KiWi servers.

We would like to find a way to script this, but we cannot find any relevant CLI options in the admin guide.  If anyone has done this or has a suggestion, it would be greatly appreciated.

If this is not possible, then would anyone find interest in a supporting a feature request to have a centralized management console for large deployments of KiWi syslog servers?

Hi Folks, I am starting to evaulate Kiwi Syslog Server and one of the main requirements will be how we provision HA (High Availability)

I have seen some posts regarding the use of LB's (Load Balancers) but these posts are pretty old and don't go into that much detail.

I'm hoping that someone can point me in thr right direction.

If we use 2 LB's in a cluster (probably Netscalers) all clients will connect to the LB VIP.

I'm "guessing at this stage" that the LB's will send all trafiic to one of 2 Kiwi Syslog servers (lets call them Kiwi A and Kiwi B where Kiwi A is the current live server)

We are resilient against the loss of a LB (as theye are operating in a HA Cluster)

If we lose Kiwi A, traffic will be redirected to Kiwi B.

Thoughts/Comments

If we lose a LB, we will probably lose syslog records - I don't think its possible to avoid this (even if we use TCP)?

If we lose Kiwi A, syslog records will be redirected to Kiwi B by the LB (again, I think we could lose some syslog records)

If we need old logfiles on Kiwi A (that isn't now available) - I guess we can't unless Kiwi A writes to a CIFS share (that Kiwi B also writes to) ???

If we don't have access to a direct CIFS share, could we use Windows DFS (so that Kiwi A is replicating to Kiwi B and vice-versa) - again, I think we will miss records.

So basically, if we lose Kiwi A, and the LB starts writing to Kiwi B, Kiwi B will have the replicated records (via DFS from Kiwi A)

Kiwi B should pretty much have almost all of the records available (would need to test this against busy input devices)

Before we go down this road and start testing, It would be great if anyone has any information/feedback/comments  they could provide.

I'm trialing Kiwi Syslog and I'm having trouble with the Log Forwarder and Security Event Log.  When I click on the Security Log I don't see Audit Success or Audit Failure as an event type.  It just has Error, Warning and Information.  If I manually edit the CFG file and add <int>16</int> it works, but then it gets overwritten if I make a change.  Am I doing something wrong?  How can I see Audit Failure as an Event Type?

I currently have a Kiwi Syslog (9.3.4) on a Windows Server 2003 R2 (x64) and would like to know the following;

1. Can I install the current version (9.3.4) into a newly build Windows Server 2012 R2 machine? Is it compatible with Server 2012 R2?  If yes, can I move the database of the old Kiwi to the newly installed Kiwi Syslog server? If no;

2. Can I install the new version (9.5) into a newly build Windows Server 2012 R2 without buying a new license?

             I'm trying to figure out which way is better? Correct me if I'm wrong.

             Currently, I want to change log level from critical to notification. I tried to avoid fill up log storage in the swtich (e.g. 3850)

1. Kiwi: I need to change console log level in order to send notification logs to kiwi, which all the notification logs would store locally in the switch then.

2. Log file (logging logfile logfile-name severity-level [ size bytes ]):  I can just change saving log file level to notification, and still store critical logs locally in the switch.

           If I'm right about the concept, wouldn't it be better to store syslogs in a log file instead of sending to kiwi?

I wonder if Kiwi Syslog Server has any limitation on how many servers that it can collect the logs from or how many servers can send the logs to the syslog server?

I know the Web Access has 4GB db limitation.  What is the best practice for this limitation when you have more than 10 servers sending the logs to syslog server? I don't want to see only 1 or 2 day logs every day from Web Access.  I hope at least 4GB db limitation can store like a month logs of all 10+ servers.  I am trying first with the windows event logs (using the free tool Solwarwinds Event Log Forwarder)

Is there any limitation that i should be aware with Kiwi Syslog Server and Event Forwarder tool?

Another question:

Does Solarwinds Event Log Forwarder can work with other vendor syslog server? If so, which vendor and which syslog server product is that?
