Hello , kiwi friends!

I am trying to get Kiwi syslog 9.4 to work on windows server 2012 64bit but having problems with the service crashing then i try to start the kiwi syslog server console.

I have applied the kb fix for Microsoft .Net Framework 2 , before that i couldnt install kiwi syslog successfully becuse the service could not start.

http://knowledgebase.solarwinds.com/kb/questions/4386/

I have the following errors in the windows event viewer!

Error 7000: The Kiwi Syslog Server service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion

Error 7009 : A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the Kiwi Syslog Server service to connect.

Do you have a solution for this or could it be a new bug in windows server 2012 and the old dot net framework combined ?

Thanks in advance.

Hourly log file rotation (Kiwi Syslog)

Hello,

I''ve tried searching the forum but was unable to find an answer to this specific issue. I just setup Kiwi Syslogd (paid) and have been testing logging from some firewalls. While I have no problem creating the log files and directory structure, log files are being created about every minute. I thought I'd modified this behavior by enabling Log File Rotation (under the Log to File action) with Total number of log files set to "2" and Maximum log file age set to "1 hour", but I am still seeing a log file being created every minute and I do not understand why. Yes I am using AutoSplit Values within the pathname btw (I saw this mentioned in another post), but I'm not sure why this would still generate a file each minute. I'm clearly lost so thank you in advance for pointing me in the right direction.

PROBLEM - pfSense syslogs for firewall event is split into two lines when it is sent to Kiwi syslog app.

Is there a way to edit configuration or parsing script to parse the pfSense event as one similar to what the Splunk app can do see link http://www.basementpctech.com/content/pfsense-log-analysis-splunk

I understand that this is a PFsense tcpdump/issue, but I have already tried changing link http://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/1938 without any luck, it just don't work, tried all combinations of changes without any luck.

Pfsense version = 2.0.1-RELEASE, (amd64) , built on Mon Dec 12 18:16:13 EST 2011 ,FreeBSD 8.1-RELEASE-p6

I would really appreciate any help with this, as I have already exhasted searching for a working soloution using Kiwi Syslog, and the only thing holding me back from purchasing this application.

Appreciate any help on this..........

Kiwi Memory Leak?

$

I am curious if there is a known memory leak in the Kiwi Syslog system?  I suspect it's due to the UltiDev Cassini Web Server based on my testing.

Windows doesn't show the UltiDev Cassini service using much memory; however, when I disable that service and restart the system I don't see the memory utilization problems making it the obvious culprit.  No matter how much memory I give the system, it will always end up using all of it's memory (I stopped giving it more memory at 4 GB) if the UltiDev Cassini service is running.

Thoughts?

What it does:

Log Forwarder for Windows allows you to forward Windows events as Syslog to your Kiwi Syslog Server

  • Works on Windows XP, 2003, Vista, and 2008 (32-bit or 64-bit)
  • Provides .MSI version for silent installs, allowing use with remote software distribution systems (e.g., Microsoft SMS)
  • Enables definition of filters that describe which events are forwarded

How to get it:

If you download the Kiwi Syslog Server 9.0 from your customer portal, you will see there is an additional Log Forwarder executable included with your download.   The Log Forwarder for Windows was developed by the Kiwi Syslog team.  It is available at no cost to Kiwi Syslog customers current on maintenance.

Try it out and let us know what you think!

Unable to Install KiwiSyslog Server after Uninstallation. "Unlicensed Version is Detected" prompts prevents further installation.

Hi guys,

I recently installed Kiwi Syslog on a Windows Server 2008 machine, however I had to uninstalled the program as the customer wants to be on the D:\ . But now I am not able to install the program on D:\ or even back

on C:\ as I get the error message "an unlicensed version is detected" hence the installation cannot proceed any longer.

Can anyone help? Where can I delete the old files so i am able to install the software again? I need to install this quite urgently, I have the license with me but I did not activate the license in my previous installation since it was not installed on the right drive.

Please help.

Thanks.

Kiwi Syslog Server Setup Window is Blank

The program was originally setup before I started working here. Recently I was asked to have some data emailed to the IT here, well I opened up the interface, and the Kiwi Syslog Server Setup window is blank, except for the menu items at the top and the buttons at the bottom right.

After some searching around on google, I figured out that the interface was missing a lot of stuff.

Besides the setup interface being blank, the server functions and is performing email tasks that were previously setup.

Any suggestions on resolving this issue?

Changing the userid for Syslog Web Access

During installation of Syslog Web Access, you are prompted for a userid and password.  The password can be changed at any time easily.

But how does one change the userid?  Where is it stored?

We even went as far as trying to reinstall syslog web access to get to the initial userid prompt again.  But having already asked us once, it did not ask us again.

Thanks,

Cannot upgrade Syslog from Free to Trial Mode

I just installed Syslog 9.4 trial, and found there was no easy way to search the logs. Noticing this is more of the Web Access duties, I signed up for the trial. I received the new installer, and reinstalled Syslog Eval, bit Syslog continues to come up as Free, and it will not send to the Web Access. When I select the Rule, it says it's not only available in the licensed version.

I tried installing over the existing, uninstalling the free version, deleting the syslogd directory... nothing works.

I got burned with Splunk, and do not want to buy this until I confirm it's going to work for me. Any ideas?

Kiwi Syslog not capturing syslogs

$

Installed Kiwi Syslog Free version 9.3.4 on Windows Server 2008 R2.  Trying to capture syslog from a Cisco ASA 5510.  I have confirmed that the syslog events are hitting the server with Wireshark.  Nothing is coming through to Kiwi Syslog.  Current settings are all default.  No filters in place.  Not sure what is wrong as I can see the syslog messages coming through Wireshark. Any ideas as to why the syslog messages are not being seen by Kiwi?
